We don't teach theory at a desk. We teach the way working barbers actually work — clipper in hand, instructor over your shoulder, real client in the chair. Foundations first. Speed later.

And we don't make you choose a lane. Our crossover track trains you in both barbering and cosmetology — cuts, fades, color, braids, and styling — so you graduate a full practitioner, licensed and ready to work any chair in the shop.

How much does barber school cost at Dooney's?

How long does it take to become a licensed barber in Texas?
The Texas Class A barber license requires 1,000 hours of instruction — about 9 months at Dooney's. Licensed cosmetologists can cross over with a 300-hour program, roughly 3 months.
What are the requirements to enroll?
A valid ID and a Social Security card. That's it — no prior experience needed. We teach foundations first.
Can I use VA / GI Bill® education benefits?
Veterans: barber programs can qualify as non-college-degree programs under VA education benefits. Bring your questions — we'll help you explore what applies to you. See the VA's non-college-degree program page.
Is Dooney's a licensed barber school?
Yes — Dooney's Barber & Beauty Academy is licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and prepares students for the PSI written and practical state board exams. Our students pass on the first attempt 94% of the time.
Where is the academy located?
4333 Gannon Ln, Suite 115, Dallas, TX 75237 — in South Dallas, minutes off Highway 67, serving the whole Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Doors open Monday–Friday, 9:00a–6:00p.
Do you help graduates find work?
Yes. Job placement assistance is part of the Class A program, and training on a live floor with real clientele means you graduate with working-shop experience — not just classroom hours.
